Raise of hands -- how many of us have gone to explore a location and don't even look back when the last piece of equipment has been packed up? It's okay, raise your hand, I can't see you and chances are, you aren't the only one.
There is a saying, "History repeats itself". That may be true in some cases, but what happens when no matter how much you wish it to happen again, it can't because a place no longer exists?
Born in Boston, I was raised in a place rich with history. Sadly, many of those places of history are now history; no longer to exist because of population growth, commercial expansion or a general lack of caring and things fall to the wayside and then in to genuine dilapidation.
How many times has the phrase "I wish I could have gone to (insert location name here) before it closed" passed your lips? My wish list has gotten to the point that it resembles a novella.
Forts that once stood proudly defending freedoms and lives now stand in ruin. Hospitals that once offered comfort to those in need now cries out for aide as it's walls are no longer pristine but covered in graffiti. Homes that once heard footsteps of our ancestors now only hear the stomping of vandals, if they hear any at all. There are some places that have gone beyond the ruin, past the graffiti and vandalism. Those places have been forgotten entirely over time.
Far too many locations have had to close down because they don't have the "glitter" attached to it that some of the places who are raking in the para-dollars do.
Do Something!
